SAN CARLOS BORROMEO, obispo. (MEMORIA)

    Nació en Arona (Lombardía) el año 1538; después de haberse graduado en ambos derechos, fue agregado al colegio cardenalicio por su tío Pío IV y nombrado obispo de Milán. Fue un verdadero pastor de su grey; visitó varias veces toda su diócesis, convocó sínodos, decretó muchas disposiciones orientadas a la salvación de las almas y fomentó en gran manera las costumbres cristianas. Murió el día 3 de noviembre del año 1584.

 SAN MARTIN DE PORRES, religioso. (MEMORIA)

    Nació en Lima (Perú) de padre español y madre mulata, el año 1579. De jovencito aprendió el oficio de barbero-cirujano, que luego, al ingresar en la Orden de Predicadores, ejerció ampliamente en favor de los pobres. Llevó una vida de mortificación, de humildad y de gran devoción a la Eucaristía. Murió el año 1639.

 CONMEMORACIÓN DE TODO LOS FIELES DIFUNTOS

    Esta fiesta responde a una larga tradición de fe en la Iglesia: orar por aquellos fieles que han acabado su vida terrena y que se encuentran aún en estado de purificación en el Purgatorio. El Catecismo de la Iglesia Católica nos recuerda que los que mueren en gracia y amistad de Dios pero no perfectamente purificados, pasan después de su muerte por un proceso de purificación, para obtener la completa hermosura de su alma. La Iglesia llama "Purgatorio" a esa purificación.
